At Bishop Wood Church of England Junior School, our approach to homework is grounded in research and centred on meaningful learning. Evidence shows that traditional, repetitive homework offers limited benefit at primary level, so we focus on activities that build skills, strengthen understanding, and nurture a love of learning.

Our homework offer includes:

Weekly Open-Ended Questions
Designed to deepen understanding of class topics in an enjoyable and thoughtful way. These tasks should take no more than 30 minutes to complete.
Half-Termly Projects
Creative, exploratory projects that enable children to investigate topics further and present their learning in imaginative ways.

Every task is carefully planned to complement classroom learning and to develop key skills such as independence, responsibility, and time management—without placing unnecessary pressure on pupils.
